Is it so wrong...

that we went to IKEA *just* to get frozen yogurt? I mean... it's only a dollar.
The pleasing appearance and taste comes with a much cheaper price tag than everything there except hotdogs and coffee. I can't(won't) vouch for the hotdogs but the coffee was good.
Mailed out all the invitations today. Whew.

Tooo Day

There are several things that I'd like to do today -- like go to a BASEBALL GAME! It might have to wait until a less busy day. I'm picking up a few friends at the train station 2nite. The invitations are finally just about ready . Let's hope that the postage is sufficient, because I dont think we can return stamps haha! It's another beautiful day, the kind where its too hot for me during most of the daylight hours.
The bed just got made with iggy still in it. We could see him breathing as the covers moved up and down. Then he stood up and tried to get out but he just gave up and sat back down. It's not as mean as it sounds.

Topical Limes

As someone who is pretty unorganized and likes to do things in a linear fashion,
the recent upwelling of multiple responsibilities is getting to me. Making decisions on a non-arbitrary basis? That can be a lot of work. All these little things, like just *CALLING* a hotel to ask them to set aside rooms for future reservation, or including slips of paper with hotel info on them into the invitations, seem like massive obstacles in the way of eliminating responsibilities. I am thinking myself naive for hoping that once that and the food situation have been taken care of, that the remaining dealies can be taken care of without 7 more popping up for each one that is removed like some marito-organizational hydra. Its probably the case that I should just quit whining and get these things done and I will wonder what the hell I was complaining about.
I'm worried that I've been corrupting Iggy too, since we have been playing tug-of-war with a sock and now he growls instead of sighing. I hope we take him out today. After he does his "bidness" in the mornings, he always wants to head down the driveway and go explore but I take him back inside.
Folks, I really want to be riding a bike around but I'm balking at the initial investment and the transportation issues. If I could have *one* very very weak wish it would be that I didn't have to deal with the paperwork around obtaining the truck and actually using it. I say very very weak because If I could have a stronger wish, I would certainly use it to deal with bigger, more general problems. :-)

Another Dollar

Welp, no smoothies were had. I realize they are insanely overpriced but we split a turkey club and got almond icecream instead. We tend to be champions of indulgence. We *DID* do some errands and did forgo a trip to the rainy boardwalk for registering for MORE wedding stoof. I had some dee-lish mexican food at "baja's" and am looking forward to eating my leftover Huevos Ranchero for a bit of breffy. Other things on the docket today include invitation fabrication and a fam fam bb bb bb qq at T's pop's House's yard. I bought a 12 of a beer i'd never seen before last night and didnt even drink one yet! It's called "River Horse" -- and has a nice hippo logo on the caps. I find this particularly thrilling because Hippopotamus has greek root : Hippo Potamous : horse of the river. So that's nice. I want to wear a string around my finger attached to a card upon which the following is printed: "remember, when dining out, ALWAYS split an entree."
I've noticed many microbreweries adding a belgian-style tripel to the ranks. I'm pleased, of course, since they are delicious, but they *do* pale in comparison to the genuine article. I think that my next trip to europe should not be to ireland, but to belgium, and then to a liver transplant.

Big Blog Log

I got a semi-stern talking to about how I need to BLOG more! So here we are. It's a beautiful day after several cold rainy days. I'm in the have. I checked the Cutters schedule (county baseball team) and the season has BEGUN! I hope to go to a game on tuesday night. It sounds like I will have to register/insure the new truck in CT when I get it, which means paying sales tax (good thing its cheap) and having an emissions test. On the plus side, there is no mechanical inspection like in NH.
I kinda want to go get a smoothie but smoothies should be cheaper. I feel like I no longer have patience for movies. I am wondering if i have brain damage because I either don't remember stuff or don't want to remember it. Of course, I still remember the bizzarre details of things that I am slightly known for.
Trixie is siging gloria estefan songs in bed... specifically "rhythm of the night" and it is, quite frankly, dazzling.
She won't admit it. It seems to be an effort to cure stomach pain by singing g.e.
I am waiting for an external hard drive to be shipped to me, which will be the harbinger of computer tweaking. I want to upgrade from freebsd 5.1 to 5.4, get it set up nicely for multiuser and maybe change out my MOBO too. That stuff is a big ol bunch of fun for me, ONCE I have data backed up.

Daily Iron & Wine Supplement

Got mine today from Jean! Sounds modernish which is a definite change from the wheezy back porch sounds of E.N.D. I like!
Looked at aforementioned apt. twice in 2 days. Drove all the bumpy hilly roads to and fro. Decided to take it. Main plusses: laundry shed, spigot (for washing dog and car), front and back yards (with cows on one side), overgrown horseshoe pits, the go-ahead for building a firepit, the go-ahead for taking wood from the land for fires. On the inside: 2 br, 1 br, 1 lr ,1 k, several closets. No rumbly trucks or sirens. I want to move tomorrow -- but I might not be able to until after I'm HITCHED. The person living there now rides a bike to school every day -- up a BIG hill. We saw him as we left. You definitely have to wear the funny-looking bike outfit when you are going distances like that.
Also inspected a park that is a hop, skip & jump from the new place, and only about 5 minutes from my current place. Its BEAUTIFUL! Big fields with rolling knolling hills and a path mowed around the edges, trails in the woods, a wide river, and benches throughout. Iggy is going to have a doggone good time. I spotted a lady's slipper just off the path too! It'd been at least 10 years since last time I'd seen one! Trixie got a *great* photo of it, despite my poor technical advice.
I need a bike.

Raining Rats and Cogs

I am hopefully going to take a look at a new apt today! My students are exhausted. What a boring post eh? haha! I am probably going to be buying a nused pickup truck soon! Can't wait to go give it a drive.

I just

Tried to remember how the numbering went on cottages 2, 3, and 4. I know without a doubt the location of cottages 1, 5, and 6. But 2 3 and 4.... hmm. Was it 2 and 3 on the left and 4 on the right? Or was 2 off to the right with 3 and 4 on the left? Oh good golly. I bet they still all smell exactly the same, +/- a few ppm beer and potsmoke.

I feel like a sandwich.

Haha, get it?
SANDWICHES DONT HAVE FEELINGS!
I got an announcement for Grad Student Karaoke. However it welcomed performances on "guita" and violin. I wonder if I should attempt to rock them, Amadeus. There will be prizes...
Perhaps I should get a little loaded and do karaoke with Tom Jones' version of Danny Boy. It just might be my favorite song to sing.

I heard the sirens again this morning, but today, as rarely happens, I saw the cause. There was a car on its side by the fire department. I had, at 4:30 am, some very unpleasant thoughts and dreams that I could not erase. I think I traced it to the episode of seinfeld called "the cheever letters." I felt better after brushing my teeth.

gotta go teach LOGS! I am a fan of logarithms, FYI.

Horsefeathers...

Oops, I mean horseradish. I got some horseradish mustard and it is... well... YOW! :-)
Horses have it good. I bet horseapples would be GREAT!

I think...

...therefore I might explode!

Is that possible? For my brain? To just go poof?

I hope not. But I suppose. In a way. It's better than just seeping out onto my new kicks.

Speaking of which. A, don't let me get away without running. Uh...that came out funny...but what I meant to say was...make sure we start our running regimin (regamin?? regimine??? regime??? Regemin??) soon, ok? I'll get some new trainers soon and we'll hit the streets.

(Note to our faithful readers: T & A have never been much of a pair of runners...but we're gonna' try it...ha! Won't that be a laugh?? Almost as funny as T trying to spell.)

Found your children by the tavern door

with wooden buttons and an apple core.
Iron and wine and wine.
I feel like i'm living as one of my highschool math teachers, what with grading all the homework. I took a hot shower then ate an icecream cone today -- raspberry cheesecake. It was delightfully breezy with shadows in the afternoon. I got a chill after my cone and scampered home to finish grading. The little bits of tree blossoms falling are like bright green snow. I think I was a shut-in last may. I don't recall whether my walk-jog -->eat melon --> wash laundry by hand --> do some math --> drink beer regime had started yet. It's one of the lengthier-named regimes I've had.

A Certain Robert

"sniksoH boB" ... something about him just bugs me. Anyone else?

fantabulous recipe

1 bottle Trader Joes Jalapeno sauce (red sauce with a red pepper on the label. Erik, you know the one.)
1 measure of crumbly bleu cheese.
ninety-nine assorted zucchini or summer squash or carrot or goat leg or metric wrenches.

heat some hotsauce with the bleuch, till the bleuch is melty.
dip. eat.
loosen metric nut.

Song Sung Blues

Do you ever wake up with a song in your head? Throughout the later part of High School, I would often wake up with You Can't Always Get Whatcha' Want in my head. I used to think it MEANT something. Today I woke up with Neil in my head. I think it just means my brain is overloaded and I listened to a lot of Neil lately. So my brain is just trying to collapse everything it doesn't need, so that lil bit of info is eeping out. All over the place.

one-oh-seven

I just taught, using notes I prepared a few days back. I liked having notes to go by, but it seemed like they took a very long time to prepare. When I wrote them I thought, "this is taking forever. Why do I prepare all this stuff?" Then in class I thought "excellent... some notes. Let's see what I should do next." Nevermind the fact that I didn't say my name. (it was on a sheet of paper, at least.) Did a review of fractions, which, by Thor's Beard, will become a first-day staple from now on.

Turnkey

So, I bought some turkey this morning, and some Cheese Ends -- yay!. I like cheese ends except for the gritty bits of who knows what on them. But sometimes you get a tantalizing taste of some yummy cheese that I, for one, would never think of getting at a deli counter. Or maybe just a provolone butt. It'd be at total crapshoot except for the transparent cellophane. So, I tasted some turkey, and thought "wow! this tastes like the turkey I eat on T-day, for once." Remarkable. I suppose it was like eating some bright orange Wisconsin cheddar and thinking "oh... so this is where the flavor of cheezits comes from."

Nightmare

So it had nothing to do with that other illustrious dream event. But I DID have a dream that I was visiting a good friend of mine at his burial site. (This friend, as far as I know, is alive, thank goodness.) Iggy--my pup--KNEW it was my friend and was wimpering and whining at the tombstone. When out from a different crypt came a young man who I knew to be dead. Who told me not to worry, soon my friend would learn how to come out and talk to me even though dead.

I lost the oomph to telling this story b/c I was interrupted by a phone call. So now it is off to mum's.

Ciao. Meep Meep. Ciao. <------------Eddie Izzard Ref.

Knock Knock

Pardon me,
Do you have any Grey Poop?

Poop Dreams

Yeah, it's not just the name of a famous mock porn. It's what my anxiety bestows upon me on a regular basis. POOP DREAMS.*

Many people have the comparatively benevolent naked in public, perhaps on a school bus, dream. Oh no, not me. I am bless with POOP DREAMS!

I have the wonderful experience of dreaming that I have to, ahem, GO. Really bad. Number two. So I go. But before I know it, I realize the bathroom has glass walls, or the stalls won't shit (<------I kid you not, I typed that by accident)...SHUT correctly. And did I mention the stall is in the HALLWAY of a crowded, oh, say BUS TERMINAL!

Well...last night, as I have been fairly wrought with anxiety lately, I had another. POOP DREAM.

A classic stall won't shut one. But add to that the cleaning crew who kept opening my door by accident and then LEAVING it open. And...though I don't want to get TOO graphic...let's just say, there was NEED for a cleaning crew when I was finished. And I was mortified. Arghhhhhh! POOP DREAMS!

The one nice point was when I was standing in front of the sink post-poop, washing my hands. One of the cleaning ladies came up to me, touched my shoulder and said "It's really ok. We all poop."

HA! POOP DREAMS.

*I have certainly guarunteed that the next perv looking for that famous movie will now find this site. Sorry, pervert. And sorry, A.!

Sometimes

I listen to the same song over and over and over on repeat for like, two hours.

Is that so wrong?

Spring Cleaning

I cleaned my keyboard today. Prepared most of a lesson. Might solder some connections on my computer speakers. I really WANT to buy new hardware... but I just dont need and I like tinkering. Is that so wrong?

Yay Butter

Let me tell you how much I like butter: a lot. Especially unsalted butter. Margarine? Yuck. I like my soybean oil without hydrogenation, thank you. I'm looking forward to making a blend of butter and a light-tasting olive oil. Tastes like butter, but far easier to spread! And, uh... I could always accidentally drop some garlic in there too. Did I do that?

Don't Panic

Just saw Hitchiker's. I was quite pleased! The plot deviated from the book as it went on, but that's just fine by me! I already *KNOW* how the books go.
I recall in highschool, a teacher mentioning how Douglas Adams was trying to be like Kurt Vonnegut but failing to communicate the humanism. I didn't want to even consider it, since I thought they were hilarious in grade school.
Having read Mostly Harmless, though, I can believe that D.A. had a different outlook later in life and influenced the movie thusly.
I thoroughly enjoyed the updated guide and the BBC marvin cameo, all the aliens on Vogsphere, and the yarn barf.

Furthermore,

I got to finish reading "Jimmy Corrigan, The Smartest Kid on Earth" while my students tested. It reminded me a lot of Pynchon's "V." in that I didnt realize until partway through that there were multiple generations being represented by seemingly identical characters. The print in JCTSKOE is very very small, so there were many sidenotes that I skimmed over. I felt like I needed bifocals when I was reading it and also trying to keep an eye on my students.

Egg Sauce, Ted

Welp, today was a big tug of war between my well-wishers and my students, battling for the outcome of the day. Heavy casualties. I am so thankful that I got to have a fun birthday celebration BEFOREhand, because I couldn't deal with one today with the requisite jubilation. Yet the end is not in sight.
Several of my students wished me happy birthday, which was nice, and I'm glad to see that everyone appears to have reasonable grades.
I returned 55 bottles to the liquor store. I still have many to return to the soda company. I am all for higher bottle deposits. However, a friend argued that higher bottle deposits would be bad for the homeless population, since people wouldn't readily discard their bottles. I see the point, but don't think it should prevent, say, a 20 or 10 cent deposit. The soda bottles have a 30 cent deposit, but you surely wouldnt be able to collect that from anyone but Hosmer itself. Their box says "reusing is better than recycling," and it's true.

HOPPY BIRDY, BABY!

Hope you are having a great day!

Look at us! TOTAL DORKS!!!

Dreams

Had some strange dreams last night, but unfortch, I don't remember them. I DO remember, though, over the weekend, a dream that I was in a city. I couldn't see the sky or the ground, But only tall tall buildings in a uniform style: grey tiles with pastel borders. There were walkways winding around and between these buildings and it seemed well lit as though indoors. And somehow I knew it was Chicago. I suppose it seemed like a weird mall with no stores.

Canoe Believe It?!?!?!

So...I was asked to go move a picnic table at N8's birthday party and WHAMMO, SUPRISE, Happy Birthday, here is your CANOE!
A bright red 1974 Gazelle with cane seats and oak gunnels. Pictures surely to follow. Trixie pulled out all the stops and then some! (We need to get paddles)
