Hullaballoo

Well, I've been stood up. I went home and came back specifically to meet two students (during my regular OH). Luckily, I brought my wife with me. You know, the one who just got her dream job. We'll be jetting down to the Have bright and early tomorrow. As in 6AM. Yep. Things to do: eat eat eat. See see see. We'll do the "bump into," and the "fall asleep sitting up." We'll probably do the "still not pick up the canoe", although really all we need is some rope and pads -- possibly even rags. The truck too, of course.
I made ghost eggs for brunch. I wanted to add a real egg in there so I could really believe that I wasn't eating scrambled skim milk. Bread & butter. Coffee. I'm a naive protege with the french press.
Got a movie to watch tonight -- it's already gotten the pre-approval from T-bomb. Starring the elfin Tatou.
I need to write a midterm before it's too late. Coming up with the problems is the hard part. Typing it is the easy part. I feel a conflict whenever I'm creating assignments. I want it to be easier than whatever the previous one was, so that people can finish all the problems and know what theyre doing. I also feel it's ridiculous to give them problems which they've already seen. I suppose the problem is that I expect them to know how to do something once I've demonstrated how to do it. Is that so wrong? It *DOES* take practice. I sorta just want to tell everyone to buy This book so they can have a reference on how to solve problems. Would it sink in? This is basically what *I* used for my exams -- lots of problems with solutions. I have to think there is a difference, though.

There's a missing mug.

I took it. There's a simple reason. Drinking tea out of my coffee cup is nasty.
I made an alliterative quiz problem for my class: Profitable Pig Perfume Production.

Jolt

Well, folks, I'm making ginger lemonade again. This time: smaller batch. More ginger. less sugar.
I was just taking iggy for a wee little wee. I was daydreaming while he did his biz, and apparently, while we were both distracted, a cat settled down about 20 feet away. Iggy just about yanked my arm out of its socket leaping after this cat. I wish he could chase it, because it'd be oodles of fun for him. He strains against the leash so hard it sounds like he can barely breathe.

Hyperbolic Frolic

Today is hyperbolic function day (observed).
This is the first time I've taught this topic, and it makes me remember learning it at Marlboro College, in physics, for some reason unknown. I know it is useful to someone, and I know *WHY* they call them hyperbolic. That' enough for me. I'm just glad I remembered why they're called hyperbolic.
Last night, I spoke to tricia half-asleep, and she jotted it down. I was definitely not with-it and obsessed about arranging objects. She thought I was talking about rearranging our rooms and I thought I was talking about putting little objects in rows of 10 in logical order. I can only imagine that this is a delayed after-affect of too much SuDoku, though I stopped playing it about a week ago.

Welcome to the Department of Redundancy Department

I'll get you yet, blogger.

Psychic Pshower Powers

Twice, blogger has nipped my attempt to post in the bud.

Last night while trying to shower, the water shut off completely twice, then ran ice cold. While waiting for it to become hot again, I cowered far from the nozzle and listened to Miles Davis on the shower radio. I was definitely more inclined to like his music when trapped in the shower.

Psychic Pshower Powers

I just tried to take a shower. Before you get all worried, know, gentle reader, that I succeeded. My success came not without perseverance. Twice the water ceased its flow, then ran cold. All the while I was listening to the shower radio which is shaped like a bug. Someone was playing some Miles Davis. I noted once the hot water returned that I was glad to be listening to some interesting music while cowering in the back of the shower, waiting patiently.

In the words of Huey Lewis,

Trix is headed back to the have today for the first time since we picked up the futon. I wish I were going with -- it would be a total funday instead of a total monday. I have weaseled out of the faraway seminar today since my schedule isnt rearranged yet.
The math picnic yesterday. A classic event. For the first time in my "tenure" here, we were busted for drinking alcohol. My growler full of ginger lemonade got some suspicious glances, but from those who knew the contents, only loving gazes. Next time I make it: less sugar, more ginger. Possibly some mint and booze in a side-batch.
Doing marginality in class today. Its an odd idea to make a whole section out of, but hey. So what if we do economics in calculus?

Happy Shed-Yule!

My schedule is trying to wriggle away from me, back to the olde fishpond of structure. No sooner do I get my schedule set (to accommodate some "piddly-ass shit"), then *BIP* -- here's something thats far more important for me to do at the exact same time. Ooops. I forgot the part about disseminating my schedule info in the middle there. It'll work out. It probably would be good for me to be STUCK here for 8-10 hours instead of relying on my willpower.

Garnet Collectors Ho!

Well, gumshoes, it's been a red-letter day. Got a new flapper for the toilet. Installed the flapper. In between all this and many other things, we went for a dunk at Ye Olde Swimming Hole. There was another vehicle around, and some bicyclists, so we were worried that there'd be a lot of people splashing around. I only saw two folks though, and they were upstream just sitting on rocks apparently. Once I got in the water, I discovered why. It was, as they say, quite brisk.
It didn't stop me though. I've got a thing about following through with the swim on a hot day, no matter if the water is cold. Around here, where I don't know too many swimming spots (after a dry summer no less), you take what you can get.
The last few times, the water has been still enough on the surface to see the bottom, which is quite nice! Only saw one fish today though. Another thing I really like about this swimming hole at this time of year is the presence of floating leaves. Black water mirroring autumn leaves is bitchin'.
In the sand at the edge of the river, I noticed lots of garnet and revealled to Trixie that one of my favorite yet seldom-indulged-in hobbies is sifting through sand and picking out garnets. Suprisingly, she was up for about an hour of such sifting and *I* was the one who had to call off the mining expedition.
Helpful hint: when collecting tiny stones, you can store them between your gums and lower lip. I heard somewhere that south african diamond miners tried this to smuggle diamonds out of mines. It works well.
Trixie found a crawdad hiding under a rock. I found a fishhook. We both found garnets. I want to go back and get more, building up a small collection which we can keep underwater in a sunlit glass jar. Perhaps we can go on mini-expeditions to garnet-rich areas.
I am one satisfied part-time rockhunting dork.

Boo!

This is not a deer ghost.

But I am just noting. Our faithful readers likely have NO EYE DEER what you are referring to. So, in that light, folks...

We had a dead fawn in our back yard this weekend and Albox had to bury it. :(

We don't know how it died because it had no blood on it, but it did appear to have a broken neck.

Iggy, on the other hand, just has that bored look about him.

Me though...if I am going to be a little honest...I am a tad bored.

But that's me. On my tombstone they will write "What else??"

Not bored of Albox--nosiree--just not sure what the heck to do with my time just yet in the new digs. And not so sure what the heck to do with my life.

blah.

Meh?

Trixie had her first day at the new job today. Apparently the woman who runs the kennel is a "dog whisperer." It will be interesting to see what she does with Iggy. It seems like he's excruciatingly bored, but I don't know how to amuse him without letting him run free.
No deer ghosts yet.

Ping Cleaning

I just added about 4 new new (oldish) pictures to my friendster dealie. I never know what to write except for 10-word-or-less sentences. Photo captions, basically.

Stern Talking-To

I gave A an STT (stern talking-to, nothing sordid) about not posting often enough and he reprimanded me for not posting here anymore. You see folks, it's just, I hae my own little blog and so, I have been a bad blogging doobie partner. For that, I apologize.

What's been happening? EV. REE. THANG.

We got married. We moved. Mr. Ruffhouse has a new tether which he uses to bask in the sun. A calls it the automatic babysitter. There are lotsa bugs here. And peepers.

We got a new bed. It's HUGE and CUSHY. It goes up to my waist or even higher when I stand next to it.

I am eating pistachios.

See. I got nothin'.

A is in the other room trying to teach Iggy to sit. He KNOWs how to sit, but probably has a hard time doing it with people other than me.

We are going to a picnic in Stafford Springs at my parents house in about 10 minutes.

I will try to be better later.
