Cute.

As in Electro-Cute. I was electrocuted by the dryer today when I went to get the clothes out. It's the 2nd time I've had a jolt of that voltage and both times it was suprising and took a while to realize what happened. I'd love to see the look on my face. I was barefoot and there was a puddle, but I wasn't standing IN it. The LL hasn't called back about it, but I managed to retrieve the clothes without further shock-therapy.
Just got back from possibly THE most depressing dinner outing I've ever been on. There's a restaraunt around here that has had at least 3 names/owners during my time here. I feel like I have to go back everytime it changes just in case it improved. This time there were definitely more staff than patrons around, with no music. The menus were laminated and hole punched and held together with these 1-inch binder rings that clanked on the glass tabletops. Not well thought-out. It would have been nice if we were the only people in there but unfortunately an older couple having a terrible first date sat nearby to have simultaneous one-way conversations under the guise of having cake and tea (though the tea was declined due to an insufficient selection and the cake was untouched according to T. ) They, like we, said "good" as convincingly as possible when asked how everything was. Why do we have to lie about it? I mean, my food was ok, but T's was definitely the pits. Why couldn't we say "Even plain spaghetti with butter wouldn't be THIS bland." Why didn't we just leave $2 on the table and run out the door after one minute? They can't really spit in my food once it's on the table in front of me.
I should have known when the sign had a back-tick used in the possessive instead of an apostrophe, as in "the restauranteur`s big error."

Thundershowers

Are forecast for the next week! Yay! I have a brand new parking spot 10 minutes away from my office. I'm about to teach the 1st class of the semester in 35 minutes and haven't web-logged in a while. The apt is slowly forming out of the chaos resulting from the post honeymoon move-in. The wedding was great; I had fun and lost about 15 pounds in sweat. I need to find a way to repel spiders and insects without making us sick. Maybe there's some supersonic dealie?

Toasted Meats

It is monstrously hot. I have the front door open and a few fans going. There is a fair breeze in the living room and kitchen, but its more like a hot wind -- which i'll take over stagnant air most any day.
Here at the ranch, we have an unquantified but large overabundance of kitchen utensils. One day we might put 'em all in a row and see how far they can go.
In a while, Trixie and Iggy will arrive and can wiggle their toes in the new place. Then its off to Beantown for a few days with my sis. Tomorrow we may go shoe shopping for me. Like many of you out there, I have too many clothing items. My cold-weather clothing looks especially useless today but I need to be careful not to throw out too much of it.
I'm in the mood for a cold shower or seven.

more delivery hijinks

today, while making a delivery to a church, my trainee parked our big yellow box truck right between the church doors and the hearse waiting outside. I told him that I thought we should move the truck and park across the street. He didn't seem to think it was that big a deal, but we moved the truck. right as we finished the delivery and returned to the truck, the casket was being brought out to the hearse.
i'm worried about this guy (who has been a delivery driver for much longer than I have!)

meh

Tomorrow marks 2 weeks at my temp job. 1.5 remaining. I've already started training my permanent replacement. He's getting married on aug 3, and he has a finely tuned ability to look at women -- many of which I don't even see. There are a lot of things I don't take notice of, mind you, but just about everyone in the world has a butt, and most of them are round.
I am in the new apt. every morning I hear cows. Last night they were mooing all night long pretty much, though it isnt melodic mooing and more of a staccato grunting. Maybe they are gettin biz-ay. This morning some geese flew overhead, and their honking agitated the cows further. I thought it seemed a bit early for the geese. Maybe they just want to get down south early to grab a good spot.
I need to get a copy of mermaid ave. I feel uncomfortable listening to the radio with my co-worker in the truck. I don't want to be the guy that MAKES you listen to 2 hours of polka -- and it really all starts to blend together and have very predictable lyrics. I sorta find it neat in a sociological sense that there are lots of polka listeners out there in the polish-american community (which apparently is all over CT) though my sense of quantity might be skewed.
I am getting to know the roads in the surrounding towns well enough that it is amusing to me. This morning I asked my coworker to "look at the map and see if there's a route that we can take up to 44 from 101 without going back to 169." Then immediately I said "oh, wright's crossing road will do that, and our next stop is right by there." I had happened to make a delivery on said road the previous week. Its sorta fun to think that I'm being paid to explore, though the exploration is decreasing since I am getting to know the area and don't have that many new stops to make every day (if any.)
It's far easier to pick out a backroad longcut when there's someone who can read the map while you're concentrating on the road.
On the morning run, we passed a work crew which was temporarily not working. I saw a crowd of people around a guy lying on a hillside with some electrodes on his chest. I thought heart attack, but my trainee thought overheating.
